All my doubts were dispelled when I hooked this flat screen LCD up. It is superb!
The sharpness, color and almost 3D nature of the picture is stunning. The layout and controls are fairly easy to understand. You can tweak the adjustments if you like; but basically the quality of the picture was great both from HD cable and even with ordinary cable stations. The audio is okay and could be a little louder; but, hey for this price I am not complaining.
Go Samsung!

I can’t complain about delivery, that was good, price is decent and the brand is very good. But what got my goat is that with all the features it has, it doesn’t have more than ONE A/V in plug! Why so stingy with a/v in jacks? I have video game console input , stereo input, mp3 input, and a karaoke machine input, and all they give you is 1 a/v input! I had to buy 4 y-jack plugs at almost 4 bucks each and the back of the TV looks like an octopus! I won’t fall for that again! But at least the picture is good but poor sound!

This was my 2nd LCD tv purchase. My first TV was a 32″ Samsung purchased in 2006. I decided to upgrade in 2007 from 32″ to 46″ because 32″ was too small for the living room. After 2 years of use, I can say this TV has been great and provided us with many hours of entertainment.

If you are shopping for TVs now (2009) and run across this TV at a really good deal, pick one up. Some advantages to current models is that the standard HDMI inputs are 3-4 whereas this model has only 2. I only use 1 input since I channel everything through a reciever anyways. The newer models are also 10-20 lbs lighter (and even more if you are buying an LED). Lastly, the new models may provide a little better contrast ratio. If buying a used TV, you need to find out how many hours of use the TV has been through and check the condition.

In today’s market, the top competitors in the LCD market seem to be Samsung and Sony. Other companies like Pioneer, Toshiba, Visio, and Panasonic also have a considerable market share, but Samsung and Sony lead the way in sales due to excellent picture and competitive pricing. Comparing Sony and Samsung, Samsung seems to provide more vivid colors while Sony’s colors are more natural and less vivid. As far as which TV is better, it’s a matter of preference. I picked a Samsung because it was at a lower price-point than the Sony I wanted (Z-Line).

My next upgrade (52″ 120hz) will probably be the same (based on prices/deals at the time). I would not hesitate to buy another Samsung.

BEWARE, THIS IS NOT A 1080p TV – Daniel Mahlum –
The Samsung LS-4695D is advertised as a 1080p TV but it does not support a 1080p signal. The Samsung website even states that this TV does support 1080p [...] “The Component input jacks of the 2006 LN-S4095D and the LN-S4695D accept 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p signals.”

The user manual states this TV only supports 720p and 1080i. I have tried multiple 1080p signals on this TV and it DOES NOT support 1080p. I am extremely disappointed by Samsung and false advertising should not be permitted. Amazon should not be listing this as a 1080p TV either.

Nice TV for a while… – M. Boujoulian – Boston, MA
I bought this television in early 2006 when I moved into my new home. I needed to get rid of my tube HDTV due to space constraints, and I needed a panel to mount above the fire place.

I spent a very large amount of time doing homework on the specifications, and narrowed my search based on price and my requirements (1080p, LCD, etc), and arrived at either the Sony XBR or the Samsung LNS4695d. After hitting the pavement, and seeting the set in the proper viewing places (avoide Best Buy and other big box stores, as they split the signal too many times, and have varying signals between different sets depending on where they sit on the daisy chain) and decided the Samsung offered virtually the same picture quality and specifications as the Sony, and for less money.

The set treated me great for 3 years, with only one exception. During very fast motion, such as a football game (American) where the ball was thrown past the crowd, or a car race, I would experience macro-blocking, and the set’s 60hz simply could not keep up with very fast moving HD broadcasts (via cable). There were other issues related to this, but suffice it to say, the TV processed too slow to keep up, and artifacts and other symptoms showed that. I also had minor ghosting in some circumstances, but I find that is visible to the experienced eye even on the Sony sets and other CFL backlit models.

After 3.5 years, just out of warranty, the set recently started showing horizontal white and colored lines. flashing and intermittant at first, over 8 weeks, they slowly became more static, and eventually made the TV unwatchable. The condition appeared across all sources, and after much troubleshooting and time on the phone with Samsung, the TV was determined by them as “at the end of its useful life.” For the price I paid, I found this conclusion utterly unaccetpable. After further research, I’ve determined the board that processes the horizontal information had failed. The part is 0 from Samsung and a handful of other providors, which equates to what I could purchase the same television for now on ebay. There are essentially zero Samsung service centers, and no in-home service options. I would have been forced to ship the television out of state for analysis and service, with no guarantee it could be repaird. I decided not to bother attempting to repair it, as purchasing another working set would have been the same or cheaper than other options.

I’ve since upgraded to another brand, with more current features, and have been very pleased.

While the failed hardware isn’t a widespread issue (though it does exist if you look closely online), i simply couldn’t reccomend this product to anyone any longer, primarily because of Samsung’s determination that a $x,xxx television set should only last 3 years. The other issues were annoying, but I was able to live with them, however the set I use now is flawless, and cheaper, and more advanced. My advice, continue to avoid paying for the Sony brand, and Samsung is not the solution. With some homework, you can do much much better for the money.

With this just released 2010 Samsung, it’s getting to the point that the only way they can improve the viewing experience is to offer “Smell-O-Vision” next.

After spending a week with this FANTASTIC television, I can only say that if you don’t mind spending extra for a set that you can be happy with for years; a TV that won’t make you wish you would have waited for the next and newest one down the line; a TV you will watch even if you’ve already seen the same ESPN Sports Highlights of the day three times, just to stare in awe at the unbelievable picture quality, then you’ll want to own THIS one.

The blacks are the darkest I’ve seen on an LCD, the jutter and blur of fast-moving scenes, inherent in the LCD format, is pretty much a thing of the past with the 240hz and different motion settings.

It took about a half hour to calibrate the mode (I went for “Dynamic”), contrast, brightness, backlight, color and sharpness that was right for my eyes. After comparing and tweaking and tweaking and comparing different settings, I finally settled for the right combination that is now, to my eyes, the most brilliant and impressive home TV picture I have ever seen.

I spent the last 2 and a half years with a SONY 52 inch XBR5. Back then, it was between that and the equivalent Samsung 52 inch. The SONY’s low glare screen and perhaps the name “SONY” made me opt for the Bravia. I was wishing I’d gone “Samsung” within about 10 months, when the SONY all of a sudden starting having some serious “issues” with its picture.

Fortunately, I bought the extended warranty. The techicians had discovered that all of the out of focus, double vision, lines of interference and sometimes even “all plaid” screen was a circuit board problem which would cost more to fix than the set (now nearly only two years old) was worth.

I was sent a check for the cost of a replacement, which was an XBR9, but also was now “only” 1800 dollars instead of thre 3500 I’d spent on the “5″ two years earlier. Ouch!

My wife and I waited did more research for about 8 more months while the SONY problem kept getting worse and worse. Finally, we’d “had it” and put the warranty money toward the just out C8000 series from Samsung.

The LED backlight issues that Samsung was reportedly having are now a thing of the past with the 8000 series. I see perfection. I love this TV. If you’re not afraid to spend the 3200 dollars for almost the best money can buy (the C9000, from what my salesman told me, is the same picture but with the “guts” of the TV in the base (wow!) and the screen a mere 1/3 of an inch thick. The 9000 remote also has a little TV in it if you have to take a bathroom break during the big game…you can “take it with you.”

I figured the additional bells and whistles weren’t worth the extra 2500 dollars I’d have to spend, so I went with the “second best” from Samsung.

I haven’t tried the 3D mode yet. I need to buy glasses, but, honestly, I wasn’t even aware it was 3D capable when I bought it.

The new brushed titanium thin frame is very cool, the shiny screen isn’t that bad reflection-wise, and I do believe it makes the picture even clearer, and, I am just extremely happy with this set. It’s the best. I can’t imagine even “looking at another girl.”

This television is a lemon. Great picture when it’s working. Purchased in April, not working in july. Does not respond to the remote or manual turn on – only a clicking from rear of television. I have been waiting two weeks for a repair. All negative reviews have disappeared from the site. Buy at your own peril.

I’ve had the unit for about 1.5 months now. Before I purchased the unit, I read numerous reviews about others hearing a “Buzzing” noise. In life, I work as a Detective/Investigator, so, I dove in deep on what to buy. I shopped everywhere from Sears Electronics, Best Buy, Local Television Electronics shops. I finally purchased the unit about 3 weeks later from ABC Warehouse (They gave the best price). Plus, I personally didn’t want to shell out 1800 bucks for my TV and have to risk damage during delivery. Pay for a unit you have to wait for and then risk it arriving broken?! Not for me. Every place I shopped, I could hear “NO BUZZING”. I inquired about the buzz with the folks at Samsung as well as a local Repair shop. I was told it’s due to outside interference. The unit comes with 3 cylinder type filters that need to be PROPERLY placed around both ends of the POWER CORD. There is an instruction leaflet in the paperwork. However, it’s in ‘Metric’ so I gave it the ‘ol college try and had no problem with placement. I purchased a Dual Arm Articulating Wall Mount from Ebay for 80 bucks with free shipping, (Awesome Mount!), I Called over a friend to help me lift the screen into place and WOW!!! So much better than my LG – 55″ LCD TV – 1080p. The Samsung has “Beautiful RGB Colors, Rich Black/Dark colors, with No haze in the picture”. I have a ceiling fan with light that you can barely see in the reflection from the screen. Their anti-glare is great! And the plus, I HEAR NO BUZZING!!!! Now, I don’t know if this plays a factor, but I do have the system running through a HTIB (Home Theater in a Box) LG Blu-Ray system. But the fact is, I hear no buzzing or any other annoying sound. It has an Awesome Picture and is very user friendly. I did notice that on the “Dynamic” setting, “Reds” where slightly higher than I would prefer. Problem solved by going into the Picture Menu. Easy Peasy! My set up is as follows, Samsung PN58C590 58-Inch 1080p Plasma, Dish Network HDTV, LG Home Theater Blu-Ray Disk system, and an Xbox 360. All connected and running flawlessly.

I would consider myself an enthusiast, and always strive for the best it can be. That said, this Samsung Plasma is highly recommended. I replaced a rear-pro DLP, and this Samsung betters it in every way. The blacks are inky, sometimes fading into the piano black frame, the colors are saturated, and very accurate, with much detail. Others have commented about buzz, but none heard on my unit. Also, others have observed a pinkish cast, which I did, as well, but Samsung has given us a lot of picture adjustments, and white level balance is also a user menu adjustment, not in the service menu. I was able to get pure whites here, and the images are now correct.The 24p playback does not elimate judder, but switching it off in the BD player solves this with no degradation observed in the image, but it now is smooth. I’d give this display an “11″ if the 24p worked, but it is still 5 stars worthy. Highly recommended!

I purchased this TV becuase I was looking for the largest screen for the money. I received my Samsung DLP in early March. The delivery was just as Amazon and Eagle promised. I was impressed with the delivery.

But after returning home from work and plugging the unit in I noticed a noticable high pitched humm coming from the back of the unit. I may return this and get a higher priced model. I was concerned with the price of this unit. The fact that it was about 0 less than comparable sized screens. The humm is not real noticeable, but you can hear it when the room is quiet and the unit turned off, like in the morning when I am putting my shoes on for work.

The viewing angle is also kinda off. You need to be right in front and sitting down to get the optimal picture. Great for regular watching, and movies. But I like to watch TV from the kitchen when drinking beer at night, and the picture quality is a little off when off to the side, and a little higher.

Overall, I am impressed with the picture quality, aside from the viewing angle issue. The first DVD I watched with this set was ‘Bullitt’ last night. I could make out a little “rainbow effect” during more black and white scenes. But it wasn’t too annoying.

For the price, it’s not a bad unit. And this is my first large screen TV so I have nothing else to gage by. My only major complaints would be the high pitched humm, and viewing angle issues.

I got this TV for ‘March Madness’, and ‘March Madness’ thus far, looks pretty good on this unit.

Like most of these reviews. Most are posted shortly after people receive the units when they are most happy. I will try and post here after having the unit for several months.

Before you buy a samsung TV, make sure that you google “Samsung TV” and “white dots” to see how many people are getting TV’s that look great for a year and then they start getting all these white dots on the TV. I have this TV and I was happy with it until right after the year warranty ran out. These dots started appearing and now are all over the screen. It costs more than half the original cost to fix, even though samsung knows it is a defective part.

Color optimizer: For each scene the color optimizer calculates the saturation of red, green, and blue in the input signal and adjusts it to the shades that the human eye accepts as natural. Even a conventional process like white tone enhancement produces more striking results when when used with DNIe. The end result is a palette of vivid hues and pure white tones to satisfy the most discerning viewers eye.

Detail enhancer: Many viewers complain of the unnatural effect that conventional uniform detail enhancement produces by relying on artificial amplification of the input signal. In contrast, DNIe automatically analyzes the portion to be amplified, detecting and re-processing any noise or defect to bring the viewer a startlingly sharp and lifelike image.

DLP (which stands for Digital Light Processing) uses an optical semiconductor to recreate source material with a fidelity analog systems can’t match. While other technologies lose a certain amount of light in transit, the microscopic mirrors in a DLP projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. It also features better color uniformity over time–no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible. It’s the leading display technology for products like small portable conference room projectors and professional venue entertainment systems.

This Samsung DLP television employs a Texas Instruments DLP chip that is comprised of millions of microscopic mirrors. The DLP chip is faster than any HDTV technology, with the mirrors switching on and off 15,000 times a second to deliver a razor-sharp picture for fast moving images. It also offers Samsung’s Cinema Smooth 720p light engine, which creates an image with no visible pixel structure and accurate shading and better low-light detail for the most film-like picture. You’ll get up to a 2500:1 contrast ratio with outstanding colors and deep black levels.

The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3-line digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. Samsung’s Cinema Smooth 3:2 pull-down film mode corrects for the artificial frames created when films are converted to DVDs. The result is a clearer image without the subtle motion artifacts caused by 24-to-30 frames per second video conversion.

Samsung’s 2.6-inch color wheel spins at 14,400 rpm for smooth, fast motion video, and has five color segments for more accurate colors. It achieves film-like transitions without pixel breakup found in slower color wheel designs and slower switching LCD microdisplays. Air Bearing technology also makes it whisper quiet.

Samsung also worked closely with Microsoft to create a special Game Mode that optimizes image quality, sound and response time for more realistic video game play–with just a single touch of a button. The Game Mode enhances dark areas, sharpens the picture, speeds up the image processing response and enhances the sounds of your games.

Closed caption: Displays dialog that can be read along with encoded broadcast TV programs and pre-recorded videos.
V-Chip: Enables parental control for channel and program blocking of TV programs that incorporate the rating code signal.

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

I bought this TV through Circuit City instead of through Amazon as I was afraid that such a large purchase would get damaged in the shipping. But I have had it for right about a year now and it is great! It has a wonderful picture and all the outputs make it nice to hook up to anything I want. Right now I have it in my small living room but we just bought a house and I can’t wait to set it up in my kitchen for entertainment while doing dishes and to access the computer to display my recipes

Why sell a white TV with a black power cable!?! Ugh. Also, takes a really long time to turn on and the remote is weird and large (I replaced with a universal). Good picture, size and style, bad attention to details.
