I ordered this TV after hours of reseaching the different brands of Flat Screen LCD (and plasma) TV’s. I chose this one based on the excellent reviews that the professional reviewers gave it. Their main comment was that it was a good value for the price. It has a lot of options that you would expect on higher end TV’s. It was very easy to hook up too. I’m a 5 foot lady whose husband was out of town when it was delivered. It wasn’t too hard or heavy for me to unpack and hook up. Another good thing is that I have not had to use the instruction book at all yet. The buttons on the remote are easy to understand when trying to access different features of the TV.
One thing that seems small, but is something I really like is that when you hit the ‘on’ button, the Vizio logo changes from white to orange so you know the TV received the signal. It only takes a couple seconds for the screen to display, but you could actually turn it back off thinking you didn’t hit the button right without that signal.
Good value – Kevin Mazzone – Folsom, CAI picked up this TV the other night from Sam’s Club. With their Labor Day sale, I got it for 8. What a deal!
Hook up was a breeze. It has component inputs that I could use to hook up my HD DirecTV receiver to, a Playstation 2 to the composite input, and soon a Blu-Ray player to one of the HDMI jacks.
So far the picture quality is great for HD and SD programming. The blacks are deep and the other colors are vibrant. I bought this expecting the picture to be like a budget TV, but was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks. I didn’t expect it to even come close to my 00 Samsung (52″ @ Costco).
Finally I really don’t notice the 120hz difference. My Samsung is 120 and I’ve turned it off since it gives me a headache, but I don’t see any difference in picture quality.
Hope this review helps…

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. Because everyone sees colors differently, Samsung’s DNIe My Color Control allows you to adjust the individual colors of your set without distorting other colors. The range of color adjustment includes Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Red and White. This ensures true to life colors such as green grass, blue sky and realistic skin tones. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. Other adjustable video features include color tone, picture mode, aspect ratio, and sound mode.

What’s in the Box Plasma TV, remote control (with batteries), stand, power cord, printed operating instructions.
I have the 2008 model of this TV in my bedroom (actually, one model higher, the 450), so I felt comfortable ordering this from Amazon as it seems this model has the same panel as the 450 model and most of the same features, other than a minor difference in some sound features.
I received this TV on Friday and the picture is amazing. Better than my older TV.
The surface of the TV is fairly reflective, but the picture is so bright, I did not have any problems viewing even in a south facing room with open curtains.
The only issue I’ve noticed is that there is a very low hum (I wouldn’t call it a buzzing) when the TV is in operation, but it’s not loud enough to be noticeable at my 10 foot viewing distance with the sound muted and certainly not with the volume at any appreciable level.
This was ripped off, the order show it comes with a free wall-mount unit, but the shipment does not included it. – 007josef – This was ripped off, the order show it comes with a free wall-mount unit, but the shipment does not included it.
Horrible buzzing, but great picture – Dana – Washington, DC United StatesWe purchased this TV and it had a really loud and inappropriate buzzing sound so we exchanged it for another one (same model). The replacement turned out to be defective as well, but this time we’re too lazy to return it and we’re just learning to live with the buzzing. Some of our friends have plasma TVs and they agree that the buzzing from this TV is not normal.
However, the picture quality is awesome, way better than we were expecting!
P.S. the screws for the base were the wrong screws the first time around. That was annoying.

Get a true cinematic experience without going to the cinema with a Samsung plasma HDTV. This Samsung PN42C430, with Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio makes sure every frame is saturated with dense, rich color. Samsung is also ENERGY STAR compliant so you are assured that your 42 -inch plasma HDTV is helping the environment by using less enery while saving you money.
I purchased this TV shortly before Christmas at the sale price (which was amazing) and at first I was extremely uncertain about it. A 42″ TV with new technology for such a low price seemed a bit strange, and I had somewhat of a hunch that maybe they were dumping them off at a low price because of poor quality. That has all since subsided.
However, when I first received the television the FIRST DAY of usage I had a big problem with it. After a few hours of usage the TV shut off by itself. I had originally thought that I may have laid on the remote control, so I turned the TV back on to only have it shutoff again about 30 seconds later. I noticed the lights in front of the television flashing, and having remembered seeing something about that in the manual, I looked to find out the bulb is defective. This seemed to confirm my aforementioned fears, and so I immediately called Samsung to have a repairman come fix the thing. A defective bulb is no big deal, but annoying nonetheless. Well needless to say, I don’t like their method of appointments, they put in a “ticket” and then have someone call YOU back to make the arrangement. It took them almost 5 days (including saturday and sunday) to call back, and the appointment was 10 days from the day I arranged it.
It was a definite inconvenience to have a large television sitting in the middle of a room completely unable to function, but taking into consideration that it was the holiday season, I suppose it can be excused. The repairman came mid-morning, took his shoes off at the door, was quiet and polite and immediately went to work on the television. He left no doubt in my mind that he was an expert at what he does, and after replacing the bulb realized there was a problem with some internal component so he replaced that as well.
Although it was an inconvenience to have to go through that process for the television, I couldn’t be happier with what I paid for it and the resulting picture. I have the TV connected through a Monster Cable HDMI (if you want top of the line, go with Monster even though its extremely pricey) with a Comcast DVR-HD box. Sports are clearly the superior quality, but the overall quality of the HD channels is amazing. I also have a Playstation 2 connected through the component cables and it looks just as good considering its not an HD output. But if you are going to connect a non-hd system (xbox, ps2) I suggest getting the component cables because using the RCA plugs was horrid, blurry, and not even worth playing.
Beyond all of that this television was a great buy, and even though the price has since gone up its still not THAT bad. I’d have given it 5 stars, but to me 5 stars would be a 1080p output. If you’re looking for a good TV for a decent price, I’d say this is definitely it.
White Dots – J. Mello – Wilmington, NCAfter about three years the DLP chip in this TV failed. The third-party replacement part was over 0 and Samsung refused to acknowledge the problem. I had been a loyal Samsung consumer before this episode, no longer. I spent +,100 in 2006 on this unit and now it’s at the dump.
Major hardware issues – A. Anderson – Chadron, NE United StatesHad the tv for 2 years now. The month before the warranty ran out the tv became pixelated like a digital dish during a bad storm. The digital controller went out (0), luckily it was still under warranty. Not even 2 months later, the tv went dark. I can’t remember what piece went out, but it was another 0 part. Unfortunately that came out of pocket as it’s no longer under warranty. Not a bad looking tv, if you want to spend 0 a year to keep it working.

We have never had a large screen TV and were using a RCA 24′ from 1987. My wife and son went to Costco in search of a 32″ LCD to greatly enhance our movie watching experience. We’re not big on HD cable so that wasn’t a consideration. Once in the Costco store they perused the TV section and after finding the 32″ we were after they set out to do the shopping and would come back at the end to pick it up. Once they had the cart full, they returned about 40 minutes later to get the LCD. My son wandered down the isle to the front of our 42″ Samsung. They had just put the clearance sticker on and as it was a floor model the price was 0.00, a mere 20 dollars more than the 32″ LCD. Needless to say a no-brainer. I never realized watching a movie at home could be so engaging as watching it through our PS3 blueray. I would recommend this set to any one, and the difference between the 720 and 1080 is a sales ploy. I don’t doubt there are differences if your watching a 60inch screen. This is an amazing TV, and for the price it was one of the best purchases we have ever made, hands down!
Solid TV – R. Elliott – WashingtonI own the older version of this TV and have been very happy with it. I’m looking to buy a new, larger TV now, and am definitely sticking with Samsung.
