Went in with my roommate to get this TV about 2 years ago. At the time it was going for 00, but we bought it from Circuit City for 00 before the stores closed. I mounted this puppy on the wall of our apartment and never once had an issue with it. The controller that comes with the unit is crappy, but we used a universal one so that didn’t matter. I did a good amount of shopping around and no set came close to consideration compared to this one.
I can tell you right now, this is a steal at just k. The gimmicky sellpoints are so mundane now. There has hardly been any noteworthy advances in the television industry in the past two years. Especially to warrant considering a new model upwards of k when you would be hard-pressed to notice any clarity difference or quality improvement over this set. 240-hz is just a selling point and hardly makes any difference. And the notion that 3D is going to take over soon is ridiculous. Common consumers were just forced to upgrade their tube TVs to flat panels over the past 5 years. Whoever believes that they would be willing to shell out more big bucks for a 3D-compatible TV is kidding themselves. 3D isn’t even on the horizon at the moment.
Anyone looking for a large flat panel with a beautiful picture, great contrast, and reliable construction…do yourself a favor and pick this baby up. Your wallet will thank you.
Gorgeous picture. Perfect size. – Stephen Bender – Los Angeles, CAExcellent television, picture quality is unsurpassed. Very large, perfect size for a living room. We don’t use the built-in speakers, so I cannot comment on them. Don’t bother using the included remote, spend a little extra money on a Logitech Harmony.
Was Good While It Lasted – J. Onofrio – New EnglandAlthough the LN2A650 is discontinued, there are newer generations of Samsung TV’s that still get pretty good ratings. I have no reason to believe that their design and/or build quality is worth your time, money, and piece of mind. Don’t be fooled like I was…
I have not owned any other Samsung products and was reluctant to purchase a Samsung TV to begin with, but it came highly rated from reputable consumer and electronics evaluators (i.e. CR, CNET, etc) for picture quality, adjustability, and the like. On October 21, 2008, I was excited to finally be getting rid of my 10 year old 32″ tube and decided to go for the then-well regarded LN52A650. I enjoyed it thoroughly with my 7.1 surround sound system, HD cable channels, PS3 games, and Blu-ray discs. Then on May 27, 2010, it began rapidly cycling on/off for no apparent reason.
A little online research reveals that this has not been an isolated problem. After the TV began cycling on/off, I tried various fixes as directed by Samsung (all to no avail): upgraded the firmware, unplugged it for 30 seconds, removed it from the surge protector and plugged directly into wall outlet, etc. They offered to cover the cost of the replacement of the capacitor, but would not cover anything else. (As a side note, the capacitor was not an issue with my TV in particular, but had been an issue with other Samsung TV’s.)
Samsung tech support, customer service, and repair people were all very friendly, but that does not make up for the fact that the TV was out of warranty and they weren’t inclined to do anything about it. The earliest appointment was two weeks out and the window was an utterly inconvenient seven hours. I took a day off from work, paid for the repair guy to spend no more than 15 minutes with the TV, before I was informed that it needed the LCD panel replaced because of the backlight overloading. The panel with labor would cost nearly a grand and it would take at least a week for the part to ship from California. He emphasized that this LCD replacement panel is “popular” and might be on back order. Even if I were to do the repair there is no guarantee that I wouldn’t have the same problem again.
It is sad that the reliability with these TV’s has been so bad. The repair guy acknowledged that they do give him a fair amount of job security. He also noted that most people choose to buy a new TV rather than have it fixed. It is even more disappointing that Samsung doesn’t stand behind their products more — there is clearly an issue with many of their TV’s (almost seems like they’re following the old Toyota play book).
I guess if I had less faith in Samsung from the start, I’d have gotten an extended warranty. I just thought they had better credibility after having done all of my research before the big purchase. Now all I’m left with is a ,000 paperweight and the solace of knowing that as the “go-to guy” for all things electronics with my family and friends that I can effectively prevent a few others from purchasing Samsung products in the future.

The picture is amazing when a 1080i or 1080p source is playing. It’s like being in a movie theater. 720p is soft and 480p is softer and you can really see the difference of 1080i/1080p vs 720p and 480p on a screen this big.
Controls on the remote are pretty easy to understand. Color controls are very good. There are 3 settings depending on the ambient light and you can quickly switch from 1 to the other. Screen controls are also easy to understand and easy to switch back and forth from 16:9 to “wide fit/screen fit” depending on the signal.
The two things that I have a slight problem with are the connector tube to the stand and the design of the remote. The tube could be sturdier. The remote handle curves down and out (sort of like the old Star Trek phaser grip) and this causes the remote to drop off the coffee table onto the floor if you don’t take the time to put it EXACTLY entirely on the table. Annoying when you just want to watch the show/movie/game.
The sound coming from the unit is good but I plan on hooking it up to a home theater system.
Overall, I think the Samsung is an excellent unit and purchasing from Amazon Warehouse is a fantastic way to save lots of money!

Samsung LCD HDTV – John Horton – Neptune Beach, Fl USAIn early 2009 I purchased a LN52A550 LCD HDTV from Amazon which was delivered by Pilot trucking, who also set it up. At the time I noticed that some input jacks were not functioning but didn’t complain until I got my wife a Wii and needed tmore jacks. A week later they replaced circuits so the jacks would work. Several weeks later the TV began turning itself on and off, requiring another warranty repair. More recently, on April 8, 2010, it was still turning itself on and off so I again called Samsung to schedule more repairs. At that time I was told both verbally and via several e-mails that the warranty covered it but that the warranty would soon expire on Apr. 30. On Apr. 23, not having heard from the repair people, I again called Samsung. They told me that the warranty had expired on Apr. 1 and that any repairs would be at my expense. When I pointed out that I had several e-mails from them stating that my warranty would not expire until Apr. 30 and that the e-mail’s could be used as evidence in court, they put me on hold until finally agreeing that they would honor the Apr. 30 expiration date. I am very troubled by the fact that they backdated the warranty expiration in hopes that I would pay for the warranty repair. That was clearly illegal. I am also disturbed by the cronic failure of the TV. For tose reasons I will never buy another Samsung product nor recommend threm to anyone.

I am using this lcd tv for last 3months working good…nice picture quality…but be careful while connecting and disconnecting vga cable ,audio cable or any other (red, white and yellow) cables to back panels which looks floppy I mean ,whole panel moves while pulling out the cables…otherwise working good
Buyer Beware!! – Meghan E. Edge – Bristol RII was quoted at returning this tv at a completely different price then they charged me. I was told I would be charged of return fee of 129.00 which I was willing to live with but I needed to return the tv. A few days later I get an email saying they are charging me 220.00 dollar return fee. When I called and asked them why they are charging me so much they just responded that was their return policy and there was nothing they would do. So I wrote a bad review about them and that’s how I got a hold of Bruno who told me they would return the difference for me and sorry about the inconvenience. Well that was 2 weeks ago and I haven’t even been able to get a hold of him never mind seen a penny of my money. They deal in shady business and I would not recommend you spend any money on their products.

It won’t take long for you to notice how beautiful the LN52B530 is. With a sleek, black bezel and new transparent bottom edge, its the perfect addition to your entertainment space. 1080p resolution produces the highest quality picture on the market and blacks and shadows are strikingly superb, thanks to the 60,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Best of all, this HDTV is Energy Star compliant, which means you’ll save on your electric bill.
I purchased this television 6 months ago this month. For big purchases such as the LN52A850, I am hesitant to recommend a product of this price without living with it day to day for a considerable amount of time. As a lifelong Sony television loyalist, I was finally convinced to purchase a Samsung from all the incredible reviews and explosion in popularity that these sets have seen recently. If you want the meat-and-potatoes with all the ins and outs of this set, I would suggest you refer to the many other reviews that have covered the tech specs ad nauseum.
Well, six months later let me start by just saying what a pleasure this TV has been. This particular model has an upgraded pixel at the sacrifice of lesser on board sound (Which is not an issue with me being as I have an audio system already. Also the fact that anyone who would like to go that route as well, the options and price points are getting cheaper by the day for surround sound options). With proper calibration, I challenge any television maker on the market to go side by side with this beauty. I’m sure hardcore enthusiasts can convince you there are better PQ sets out there. They are correct. I believe there are 2, yes TWO televisions available that can out perform this one, both of which are plasma based. One is the Kuro which will likely cost you at least double, if not triple, the price of the LN52A850. The other is the G and V series Panasonic plasmas. The Panny was VERY high on my list and is an unbelievable deal. I cant say enough about the Panasonic but, again it is a plasma set. Which brings me to my next point and I think this is information that EVERYONE should know: Plasma televisions WILL, even to this day, have IR or image retention problems. That is just the nature of the beast. Those black side and top bars on most movies and standard def TV shows present a particularly unavoidable problem. I chose LCD because I simply do not want to deal with IR on any level, regardless of how easily it ‘supposedly’ goes away. I can see it now: I’m sitting down to watch the super bowl with a house full of guests when I forgot to run my IR wipe cycle after someone else in the house has the ‘LIFETIME: Television for Women’ logo or my favorite video games health bar IR’d over the score… IR is simply an issue that comes across as substandard quality for a perfectionist such as myself.
If you have been researching for a perfect, maintenance free, workhorse of a television with picture quality that will absolutely and without a doubt blow you away every time you press the play button on your favorite blu-ray, DVR’d sporting event or show of choice, LOOK NO FARTHER. Consider yourself lucky that you found this exact model considering all the confusing product #s and the fact it seems to be pretty well hidden while searching amazon.---Samsung LN52A850 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color ---THIS-IS-THE-HIGH-DEFINITION-TELEVISION-YOU-ARE-WANTING (period)
On a side note: Feel completely at ease ordering a television from Amazon.com. Delivery was professional, prompt and on par with any brick and mortar shop around. (However you will most likely have to connect your devices yourself but that should’nt be too big of a problem)
Great TV even after a year – can’t say that about many things these days. – T. Thompson – USAI purchased this TV back in 2008, and it still ceases to amaze me. Every time people come over and watch a Blu-ray movie, they are amazed and in wonderment. And in this day and age when technology changes so quickly, with 240hz and LED back lighting, I can still say that I am still in love with this TV to this day. 52″ is a lot of real estate in this day of bigger, bigger, bigger, but with my set up, this TV is perfect. The only drawbacks, and there is alawys some, is the secondary remote that comes with it, that is supposed to simplify, doesn’t even work. And the speakers in it are pretty cheesy, but if you are spending this kind of money for a TV, I hop you have a sound system to go with it. But, over all this is the best TV I have seen around, and I can still, even after a year which is like 5 tech years, I would do it all over again.

I upgraded from a 55″ Mitsubishi CRT Rear Projection dinosaur. For the space we had, a 55″ wouldn’t work. Needed a 52″. I was disappointed that we couldn’t get an LED in 52″ and didn’t want to downsize to 46″. Anyway, looked and looked and researched and researched. Finally decided between this and SONY Bravia XBR9. Compared them at Best Buy, decided on this one. Went back the next day to pick this one up – sold out overnight!!!!. I’ve ordered a lot of stuff from Amazon, but never something like this. I was irritated with BB being out of stock on an advertised item (I couldn’t even get it from [...] – wouldn’t deliver to my area). Anyway, ordered this TV, telescoping mount, Playstation, and accessories from Amazon. All but the PS came in 4 days!!!! OK, what about the TV? Blackest blacks, almost 3D like picture. Sound is not theater-like, but more than adequate. We are thrilled. I can’t imagine an LED being much better. This is phenomenal. I saved at least 0 between this and the mount by buying at Amazon. Would not hesitate to buy anything from Amazon again and would definitely by the Samsung again. At any price, this is it. No, I’m not a videophile, but I watch a lot of TV and this one is fantastic.
Great value and great delivery – J. Marks – Washington, DC United StatesThis is our first LCD TV and we have been very impressed. Great picture quality, sleek design, excellent for Blu-Ray. I only wish that the picture quality of our HDTV cable were crisp enough for this TV. ehat makes this especially worthwhile is the price of 99, very good compared to other prices in January 2010. Delivery was faster than estimated and person helped set up the TV.
Very very Satisfied – R. Scott – Tallahassee, FlI read lots of reviews before purchasing and after 2 months, I have not had any problems. I used the set up information on the internet and am happy with the results. I am using 240hz for sports and movies and still very good and clear picture for both. Keep in mind that you have to get an HD signal from your cable or satillite company. I am using the 1600 Bluray player that came with the TV and the blueray movies are “surperb”. I have not started using the movie streaming or internet yet, as the 1600 does not have the wireless setup. I have a high quality stereo system hooked up and if you turn the volume up, its just like the movies.
